how long should you row on a rowing machine

Introduction

A rowing machine is arguably one of the best full-body workout machines on the market today. The reason why this machine is so popular is that it helps to strengthen both your upper and lower body by mimicking the motion of a crew or sweep rower. But to benefit from a rower, you need to commit yourself and put the right amount of time. How long should you row a rowing machine? This is a common question that many people ask. Another question that is also quite popular is: What is the least amount of time I should spend on a rowing machine? The truth is that these are tough questions because there is no wrong or right answer. We are all different both in terms of our abilities and goals that we have set. For instance, I may want to lose weight within six months while another person may want to lose weight within three months. While I can give you some estimate on how often you should row on a rowing machine, the truth is that my view may not work for you. The only person who can answer this question is you. In this post, I am going to discuss crucial factors that determine how long you should row on a rowing machine.

Your workout goals

What do you want to achieve from your rowing workouts? This is a crucial question that you need to ask yourself when determining how long you should spend in a rowing machine. For instance, if your goal is to burn belly fat, then spending about 20 minutes on the rowing machine is enough to help you burn those stubborn belly fat. On the other hand, if you are rowing as part of a sports training regimen like me, then you will have to spend more time on the rowing machine to achieve your desired goal. For instance, when I am preparing for a professional competition, I do spend at least 45 minutes on the rowing machine daily to build power on my lower and upper torso, help boost my performance and lower the risk of injuries. So, the amount of time you should spend on a rowing machine should depend on your workout goals.

The time frame for your goal

We all have different time frames for achieving goals. The time frame for your achieving goal will affect the amount of time you need to row on a rowing machine. For instance, a person who wants to lose 16 lbs should spend more time rowing than a person who wants to lose the same amount of weight in three months. According, to experts, a person who wants to lose at least 16 lbs in two months needs to spend between 30 minutes and one hour per day rowing on a rowing machine. On the other hand, a person who wants to lose the same amount of weight in 4 months needs to spend 15-30 minutes per day rowing. The more time you give yourself to achieve your goals, then less time you will spend on a rowing machine and vice versa.

Your pace

The higher your pace, the shorter your rowing time and vice versa. A person doing 30 strokes per minute will cover more distance than a person doing 20 strokes per minute. This means that if you have the stamina to perform your rowing workouts fast, then you will spend less time on the best rowing machine. On the other hand, if you lack the pace but have endurance, then you will spend more time rowing to achieve your goal.

So, how long should you row on a rowing machine?

From the above discussion, it is clear that the amount of time you should spend rowing on a rowing machine should depend on your goals, your current form, and the timeframe you have set to achieve your goals. For instance, rowing for about 15 minutes a day can help you burn between 150 -300 calories depending on your workout intensity. This means that you will only lose 0.5lbs per week. So if you want to lose 10lbs, then it will take you about 20 weeks to achieve your goal. On the other hand, rowing for about 30 minutes a day can help you burn between 300-600 calories per day. That translates to losing 1lb per week. So if you plan to lose 10lbs, then it will take you about ten weeks to achieve your goal.

Conclusion

In conclusion, from the above discussion, it is clear that the amount of time that a person needs to spend rowing on a rowing machine depends on various factors as discussed above. I recommend that you analyze yourself in depth to know your goals and your abilities. This way, you will have a rough idea of how much time you can spend rowing. You should also consult a training instructor to help you formulate a customized rowing workout plan that will help you achieve your goal. Lusty, you should purchase a rowing machine that will enable you to set your workout goals and tracks your performance to help keep you on toes
